Most appliance training assumes a room at a comfortable temperature. The Valley does not supply one for a third of the year, and two things change as a result.
Ambient temperature changes what the readings mean. Domestic refrigeration is specified to run in an ambient of about 110°F. A closed garage here passes that on roughly 21 days in an average year — nearer 37 over the last decade, and 70 in 2024. Above it the condenser cannot reject heat into air already hotter than the coil, so the compressor never gets its off cycle. A unit doing exactly that is not faulty, and replacing its compressor fixes nothing.
The water is very hard. Phoenix supply runs 10–17.6 grains per gallon, because roughly forty percent of it is Colorado River water via the CAP canal. Ice makers, dishwasher spray arms and steam-oven boilers scale up years earlier than the same units would elsewhere, and most of those calls are descaling rather than replacement.
The same technicians work across the rest of the built-in market, so a kitchen with three different badges in it takes one visit rather than three.
